Fox Self Storage Opens a new Self Storage Facility in Newport
Cwmbran-based Fox Moving and Storage’s new facility, on Leeway Industrial Estate, is a 17,000 sq ft warehouse spread over three floors and serviced by a lift. It is divided into space for traditional container storage for the removals side of the business and 120 self storage units ranging in size from 15 sq ft to 200 sq ft.
Paul Fox, managing director of the family firm, said the company had long been looking to expand into Newport.
“Our family has strong business and personal links to Newport and have been looking for a suitable location in the city for some time,” he said. “We are delighted to be able to offer our services to local residents and businesses.
“This launch is the culmination of a number of years of hard work by Fox and the team at Newport County Council to bring the company into the city,” he said. “We are thrilled that Fox has chosen to open their new facility on Leeway Industrial Estate and wish them every success in their new venture.
“We believe that it is an exciting time for the area as a whole, with similar improvements made by other tenants on the Leeway Estate contributing to its regeneration; which is in keeping with the huge housing and infrastructure projects being completed in this area of the City.”
Part of the family firm, which this year celebrates its 40th anniversary, the Fox Self Storage division was formed in 1995 in response to customer demand for secure, easy access lock up units. Fox now has self storage stores in Cwmbran, Cardiff and Newport.
Paul Fox said: “Self storage is a natural evolution for us. Since opening our first facility in Cardiff we have seen a steady level of growth. Customers want to deal with a company that is an expert in its field and feel comfortable with a long established local business. After a considerable effort to refocus the business we have made a huge investment over the last 10 years to develop our self storage facilities to their current high standard.
“We are optimistic that our latest venture will be well received and hope to expand further in the near future.”
The £6m-plus-turnover-business also has a strong presence outside Wales with offices in Bristol, Southampton and Stourbridge – supplemented by a franchise network of 14 agents ensuring that Fox has UK-wide coverage.
The business has diversified in recent years and 50% of revenue now comes from international moving; the UK housing markets now only accounting for 16% of business.
Military family relocation, office moving and storage currently make up the balance of its turnover.
